How To Register

Go to the main message board page and pick one of the message boards.

Once you are in a message board, you can read messages to your heart's content.

But to post a new message, you must register.

Select "Log In."

Then click on "Need a login? Register Here."

Fill out the required fields in the registration form.

  • Your name — this is the name that is displayed with your posts
  • Your user name — this is the user name you use to log in to the message board
  • Your email address

Don't select a user name that's hard to type; you must enter it exactly the same way when you log in again.

Then click on the "Register" button down at the bottom of the page.

Your new password will be emailed to you in a few minutes. The subject line of the email will be "New Password" and it will come from phorum AT sunless DOT com.

Your new password will be something horrible like "sl48fh48,", unfortunately you must type it in. Frequently cut and paste will not work properly with the password field in an html form.

Save this email until you have logged in successfully for the first time.

Remember to log in in using your USER NAME, not your name. You can, however, make your user name and your name the same. So, instead of putting "Miko" in the user name field, put "Miko So Pale" — whatever you plan to use as your name in the message board.

Names, and user names, must be unique. Check the message board using the search function to see if your name is already taken. If it is, you can add your skin type or an initial to it to make it unique. For instance, if your name is Chrissy, try using the name Chrissy A. or Chrissy(II/III).

Trouble Logging In?

The two most frequent problems people have logging in are: cookie problems and confusion over "Name" versus "User Name."

1) If you login and phorum keeps acting as if you haven't, you can't post, etc. then your problem is more than likely an issue with your cookies. Most browsers have a way for you to manage your cookies, so find that and delete any cookies you have for sunless.com.

2) If at login you keep getting an error message about incorrect password/username then you may have confused your User Name with your Name (please see above).

Make sure that you type your password in. Cut and paste looks like it works, but frequently does not with password fields in web pages.

If all else fails, email support AT sunless DOT com.

Privacy and Changing Your Profile

No information other than your name is displayed to people who are not registered and not logged in.

When you register, the privacy function is set to "Yes" automatically. This hides your email address and other information from everyone, including people who are registered and logged in.

You can edit your profile at any time to change your email address, password, your privacy setting, and other information. To do so, log in, and then click on the "My Profile" link in the bottom left navigation menu in the message board.

If you add a signature to your profile, it will be displayed every time you post. It is helpful to enter it on two lines, with special characters that set it off from your post, like so:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's Not Easy Being Green
When you leave the message board, remember to log out. You will not get logged out automatically.
Basic Usage Information
To post a new message, click on "New Topic."
Be sure to search, search, search! Our message board system, Phorum, is terrific for searching.
See commonly used message board abbreviations and you will be speaking "ST" in no time.
Adding a Photo to Your Profile
When you add a photo to your profile, you are telling the messageboard where the photo is, not uploading it to Sunless.com.
The photo must be on the Internet — it cannot be on your computer only, or no one will see it but you.
If you have a friend with a web site, ask them to add your photo to their images folder, and to give you the URL, or address, for the photo. The URL or address would look something like this:
http://www.myfriendswebsite.com/images/mypicture.jpg
That is the picture's location, and that is the information you will need to put in your profile.
Don't have a friend with a web site? Then you need a web site that will host your photos for you, and which will also allow you to link to the photos. Many web sites, such as geocities, do not let you link to images.
We recommend www.hpphotos.com as a free, reputable web site that hosts photos.
Photo Bucket also offers free hosting for profile pictures, www.photobucket.com.
To make sure your picture loads, make it no larger than 150 x 150 pixels, or people with slower connections may not see it.
Already have a picture on the Internet, but not sure what the URL is? Right click on the photo and then select Properties. The URL or address will be displayed. Highlight it with your cursor, then press the CTRL + C keys to copy the address. Then press the CTRL + V keys to paste the address into your messageboard profile.
If the image does not show up in your profile after that, it may be that the address has a typo, or the web site does not allow you to link to its images, or the image is too large.
Rules of Conduct
Some posts are removed. These fall into five categories
  1. Commercial posts
    Posts from manufacturers, distributors, and sales people. The Sunless.com message board is for the exclusive use of consumers.
  2. Posts with evil intent
    This includes posts under different names, posts that attack other visitors, and anything remotely unpleasant.
  3. Anti sunless tanning posts
    There are plenty of pro tanning message boards. This isn't one of them.
  4. Pro UV tanning posts
    Many of our visitors have gigantic holes in their skin where the skin cancer was cut out. They do not want to hear it, therefore we do not want to hear it. As a result, any tanning bed usage questions are also removed. However, we are happy to support people who are kicking the tanning bed habit.
  5. Off topic posts
    Posts on skin care, skin cancer, sunscreen, moisturizers, bronzers, etc. are not considered off topic. Everything else should be shunted off to the new off topic message board. Talk about your great new haircut, the movie you saw last night, computer problems, anything! Just remember that the children are not in bed and are reading it, too.
Language
Sunless.com thinks of the message board as an extension of our livingroom, and the users of the message board as our honored guests. We insist that everyone be treated well. Name calling, even when employing mild terms such as "smarty pants," causes us deep distress.
The message boards are for all ages. Please use appropriate language.
Selling products
You can use the sunless.com message board for selling or swapping products, but if you are serious about swapping and selling products, check out www.makeupalley.com. This is the best site around for makeup and self tanner swaps. If you use the Sunless.com message board for sales and swaps, exercise caution! There is no way of verifying the identity of the person you are selling to or buying from.
Miscellany
You must make certain that your user profile always contains a valid email address for our administrative purposes.
You may not create more than one account for any reason.
Summary
Sunless.com blocks message board users who do not abide by these guidelines. We have a "one strike and you are out" policy which is never tempered with mercy.
