Our Mystic Tan Field Trip Page Three

Clara the next day, with Bigmouth the catLooking around me, I located the wall with the mystic tanning jets on it, and the all important button I needed to press. Inside the Mystic Tan, which is fairly roomy, there was a metallic looking pad I was supposed to stand on. Allegedly this helps the MagneTan technology work better, but having used the Mystic Tan without the pad, I had complete faith in Dr. Laughlin's invention, pad or no pad. I stood on the pad anyway, assuming it had been placed at the optimal distance from the jets.

Elizabeth had instructed us to press the button, then stand facing the jets. There would be a blast of about twenty seconds, then it would stop, we would turn around, and there would be another blast. This made me nervous. What if I didn't turn around? To reassure myself, I chanted: "Don't forget to turn around!" — hopefully silently.

Finally I pushed the button, and hopped back to stand on the metallic mat. The whoosh of the jets started. I was so surprised I took several deep breaths of the Mystic Tan solution, which did me no harm. I remembered Elizabeth's instructions to move around a bit, doing what she called the "mystic mambo." I slowly raised and lowered my arms, and turned slightly sideways, first one way, then the other.

The jets stopped, and by golly, I remembered to turn around. Within a few seconds the jets started again, and once again I moved around slightly. Also according to Elizabeth's instructions, I kept my palms facing away from the jets at all times. After a short period of time, the jets stopped.

For the first time, I opened my eyes. The air was full of brown swirling mist. I shut them again. Elizabeth had advised us to stand there for a while, letting the mist settle, so I did. After about 45 seconds, I got out. The entire experience took less than two minutes.

Having heard reports that some people exiting the Mystic Tan had solution running off of them, I examined myself. But I was comparatively dry, just as I was when I used the Mystic Tan in Dallas; there was a bit of mist clinging to body hair, but that was all. I removed it with the towel provided. At that moment I realized I had completely forgotten about the barrier cream!

Facilities with Mystic Tans provide barrier cream in a dispenser on the wall, as well as hair covers and towels. I put barrier cream all over my hands and rubbed it in well. I did the same thing to the tops of my feet. Then I put on my bathrobe and walked out of the private room so someone else could take a turn. I sat on a chair and used Wet Ones on my palms and the bottoms of my feet to make sure no solution remained.
