Mystic Tan

The Mystic Tan is a booth you step into which evenly coats you in a sunless tanning solution in a matter of seconds. In just minutes you are dry enough to get dressed.

Well, it finally happened, you are thinking. Somebody asked her one too many questions about tanning pills and she has gone completely around the bend, entering a world of her own, one populated by sunless tanning machines and probably free Siamese kittens for all.

Wait! I'm not fooling. There really is a Mystic Tan.

The Mystic Tan is now available in hundreds of locations throughout the United States. Check the web site www.mystictan.com for the most current location information.

Application tips:

  • Bring a bathrobe [or loose clothing] and plain body lotion with you. Everything else you need will be provided.
  • You will be in a completely private room, so you can wear nothing at all. Ask for a sticker so that you can keep a small patch of untanned skin to gauge your results.
  • Put on a hair cover [provided] if needed. If you are wearing make up, wipe it off with the Wet One [usually provided] first. For me, the Mystic Tan works best on clean, bare skin.
  • Apply ordinary lotion to the backs of your hands and the tops of your feet plus ankles. Apply the barrier cream [provided] to your palms, fingernails, and toenails.
  • The nozzles in the Mystic Tan will emit a mist twice. The first time, stand with your back to the nozzles. It's a little less surprising that way. :-)
  • Make sure you understand how to stand in the unit. Keep your chin up, your arms out at your sides, and the palms of your hands facing down and away from the nozzles at all times.
  • First mist: With your back to the nozzles, turn slowly so that your left side faces the nozzles, then turn your back to the nozzles again.
  • Once the mist stops, turn to face the nozzles. Don't worry, you will have plenty of time.
  • Second mist: With your front to the nozzles, turn slowly so that your right side faces the nozzles, then turn to face the nozzles again.
  • Wait about thirty seconds for the mist to clear, then step out of the unit.
  • Using paper towels [provided], remove the barrier cream and lotion.
  • Using the towel [provided], lightly wipe the mist on your body to make sure it is evenly distributed. Do this even if you feel completely dry!
  • As a courtesy, you should put on your robe or loose clothing and finish all other steps outside of the private room.
  • Rub ordinary lotion on your hands and feet. Use Wet Ones to wipe off the bottoms of your feet and the palms of your hands.
  • Sit around for at least fifteen minutes to let your sunless tan dry completely. If it is hot out, wait thirty minutes. Then get dressed and go!

Tried this for the first time yesterday. Overall I am really happy with the results. My face is fairly dry so it didn't color quite like I hoped, but next time I think a thin layer of lotion a while before my session might help. Great color though!

Not pleased. Expensive, but even after repeated applications within the same week my color was light. Even proper use of barrier cream left feet streaky. Was so excited about this product..now I'm disappointed!

Mist On Tan is way better. Check it out for yourself. I did.
