Clara Pettitt, © 2003. All Rights Reserved. Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam, Extra Deep Good heavens! Is it possible that the short reign of Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Mousse as the best overall drugstore/supermarket sunless tanning brand has come to an end? In 2000, Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam blasted onto the scene, beating Banana Boat Mousse hands down when it comes to smell [there's not much] and a fast drying, non sticky application. Thankfully, Neutrogena did not stick with the original fragrance that appears in the lotion, which I have found too strong of late. The new fragrance, a lighter version of the one that appears in the new Instant Bronze product, fades nicely and painlessly. On the Foam's label, Neutrogena claims "Patent-pending dual tanning system provides a completely natural looking tan..." Apparently they are referring to the addition of erythrulose. As there are many other sunless tanners that combine dihydroxyacetone and erythrulose [Clarins and Decleor to name two], it seems improbable that Neutrogena would attempt to patent it. However, Neutrogena was the first to combine the two in a foam or mousse product. All that is offered in the Foam formula is Deep and Extra Deep. On my type II skin, Deep was a bit too much, and Extra Deep produced a sunless tanning disaster of the first order. This suggests that satisfied users of Banana Boat Mousse Soft Medium Blend should avoid both incarnations of Neutrogena Foam. I must note that many of us, including me, did not like the way this product faded. I had about a million freckles on the lower part of my legs that took days to go away. As a result, I have no inclination to buy it again. But many people, particularly skin type IVs, have told me that the Extra Deep version is the only drugstore product they have ever used that looked good on them. Online merchant: drugstore.com

After 2 applications my legs turned a lovely shade of pumpkin. I'll stick with the dark. Nancy Taylor June, 28 2004 If it gets any better than this, I don't need to know about it. I've used this product exclusively for 3-4 years, and it makes me look human. For face: Estee Lauder deepest shade lotion in squirt bottle. Sara February, 13 2004 I'm skin typeII and LOOVE this product - gives you a nice gold tint in one application or 'i layed outside all weekend' colour in 2 apps. exfoliate first, dries quickly ¬ much smell-and I am SUPER sensitive.
